Celebrating the inventive, boundary-pushing artistry of the Nordic countries, audiences are invited to journey north for an unforgettable evening at Lincoln Center’s Nordic Next series, spotlighting visionary music shaped by diverse Nordic perspectives. One of the most prominent voices of the contemporary Greenlandic Hip-Hop scene, Tarrak is an indigenous artist who raps in his mother tongue of Kalaallisut. His music is urgently and deeply rooted in the reclamation of his people’s identity and acts as a direct challenge to the legacy of Danish colonialism. Tarrak received the Talent Prize at the 2017 Koda Awards, the Government of Greenland’s Encouragement Prize in 2017 and the Prize of the Year at the 2021 Greenlandic Music Awards. His vibrant rap music explores issues of self-determination, colonial history, cultural pride and the experience of growing up disenfranchised in Greenland. A powerful representative of his nation’s modern voice, Tarrak’s high-energy concerts and complex message make this evening’s performance a rare opportunity to hear a distinctive voice from a part of the Nordic region that is rarely represented on the New York stage.

Nordic Next is presented in collaboration with the Consulates General of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in New York, and with the Embassy of Iceland in Washington, D.C., with additional support from the American-Scandinavian Foundation.
