Rose Theater

Using transcriptions of counterpoint from Bach’s The Art of Fugue as a jumping-off point, the International Contemporary Ensemble explores the transparent and colorful polyphony of George Benjamin (who uses the hiccup-like medieval hochetus technique), the theatrical polyphony of Harrison Birtwistle, and Helmut Lachenmann’s Mouvement, “a whirring, rasping, ricocheting maze of new, beautifully fashioned sounds” (The New York Times).
