Echoing Voices—A Musical History of America

David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center
Meet the Artist Saturdays

Waves of immigrants the world over have arrived in New York Harbor and on the shores of America with bright hopes and big dreams in a new land. As these cultures arrived, they not only built new lives, they also built a new vibrant identity for America as we know it today. How? Through their story and their music, they contributed a unique sound and a fresh energy to their American surroundings. Silver Roots guides the audience through entertaining and imaginative tales of immigration. Volunteers have the opportunity to portray an array of immigrants in fictional sketches as the audience helps dictate each story’s outcome. A riveting soundtrack of improvised and traditional songs ranging from European to Middle Eastern to Asian and Latin American is performed live by Silver Roots as they fuse story, acting, and music to create a highly interactive look at the three largest waves of immigration in American history, allowing all to hear the echoing voices of our heritage. All Meet the Artist Saturdays include a Q&A session with the artists.

Meet the Artist Saturdays are FREE workshop performances for the entire family, offered on the first Saturday of each month at 11:00 am.
