Suzanne Vega

“Vega is credited with opening the door in the 1980s for other female singer-songwriters; Beauty & Crime shows she is still on top of her game.”—The Boston Globe

Thursday, January 28 at 8:30
The Allen Room

With her sultry voice, Suzanne Vega seamlessly joins poetry and contemporary folk song with a sound that is utterly unique. A pioneer among singer-songwriters, Vega has embarked on a project to re-imagine her own songbook in a stripped-down and intimate manner. The first volume of the four-album series is called Suzanne Vega: Close Up, Volume 1: Love Songs and is being released for Valentine's Day. Vega will be joined by her long-time partners Mike Visceglia and Gerry Leonard as well as the Light and Sound String Quartet as she performs her distinct brand of love songs inspired by the city and people in it that she has always loved.

This performance is approximately 80 minutes, with no intermission.

The New York Times, January 29, 2010
"The cool, vibratoless voice, always on the note, singing without syncopation and with minimal dynamics, conveys an inviolable purity of heart tinged with mystery and a faraway melancholy."
